Hortons estate agency was founded in 2016 by 26 year old Adam Horton who left school at the age of 17. It is based in the East Midlands and operates on a franchise basis.
Hortons aims to fill the gap between traditional high street estate agencies and on-line agencies such as Purplebricks. It combines the convenience of an on-line presence with the highest level of personal service. Given where it is based, Hortons is aimed at Middle England in every sense.
Franchisees are experienced estate agents who appreciate the greater freedom, responsibility and earning potential than is offered by the other models.
In April 2019 Dunelm Partners made an initial investment to allow Adam to improve the Horton’s website and other technology and in December 2019 when Hortons had 6 agents, invested a further £200,000 in order to rapidly expand the number of franchisees.
However the estate agency market ,like a lot of other industries, had to contend with the global pandemic and while at one point there was a short-term boost to the market, the pace of Horton’s expansion plans was forced to slow and had to slow even more in the aftermath of the Kwarteng/Truss mini-budget.
Despite the turmoil, Hortons has emerged strong and as of March 2023 has over 20 agents covering all of the East Midlands and parts of the West Midlands, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Cambridgeshire and is back on the trail of rapid expansion.
